Traditions Monday: Why I Go Back To Athens
I’ll admit it: I am a lifelong Georgia Bulldog fan. I graduated from our state’s flagship university in 1984.
My wife and oldest son are also UGA graduates, and my youngest son is a student there. Attending…

What's up?
Hemoglobin dropped a little to 13.3g, which lower but is still ok!
Got sick (yes, again), this time with just a crappy cold I caught from my cute nephew… but my throat still hurt really badly and I was all stuffed up… not fun.
Sent in my blood to get tested again for the immunity treatments, no results yet.
HARRY POTTER WORLD WAS AWESOME.
Hurt my wrist almost 3 weeks ago by doing...
Insurance denied my treatment. Need to retest my blood and try again. Awesome.

My body still hates me
Yep… I need to get 3-6 treatments of intravenous immunoglobulin (aka IVIG), which I had while in the hospital. From what I gather, my immune system cannot support itself on its own because IT SUCKS and isn’t making enough antibodies to ward off infections, so the IVIG supplies them to me. It’s basically different people’s antibodies from donated plasma (so thanks if you...
Blood test today— all is good! White blood cells still high but that’s ok. Red blood cells and hemoglobin are completely normal!
Taking a third round of antibiotics for my PCP (pneumocystis pneumonia), caused by a fungus in your lungs that normally would not cause a healthy person to get infected (like bacteria in your intestines), but since my immune system has been compromised by...
So now that I’ve been sick for a week and not getting any better, my hematologist (and I) started getting a little worried. I talked with his PA and she told me I had to go get a CT angio scan to make sure I don’t have any blood clots, as being on corticosteroids for so long is effing up my body and is giving me weird sicknesses. I am immuno-compromised with my blood disorder. I got a...
Time to start paying that deductible again.
Went to the cancer center and my hemoglobin is soaring at 15g! I am back to a normal level! White blood cells still elevated from steroids (3 weeks left) but otherwise my blood is kickin butt. Here I now sit at Northside Hospital imaging having a radiologist look at the chest x-rays I just had taken. It’s been 5 days and my bronchitis isn’t getting better. Hopefully no pneumonia. My...

...ugh bronchitis
I am so overwhelmed and frustrated right now. I am tired of being sick. Nothing can help me sleep. I can barely breathe without coughing and wanting to cry. What do I have to do to get better? I have been sick since October and I just want to be off steroids and not bruised all over my arms from blood tests and able to sleep and oh baby Jesus please let me be able to exercise without feeling...
My 2012 Resolutions--
How’d I do?
Learn how to use my sewing machine and make that t-shirt quilt and SO MUCH MORE
Hell to the yes. Go me.
Train for a half marathon
Decided to stick with 5ks for a reason… I’d like to be able to walk on these bum hips. I did get some cute workout clothes though.
Be more experimental in cooking/baking
Yes, definitely, and most deliciously.
Finish paying off my...
Almost back to normal!
Had another blood test today and got some great numbers— hemoglobin at 13.8g (up from 12.9g), platelets back to normal, red and white blood cells still a little high but nothing to worry about! I don’t have to go back to the hematologist for 2 weeks!
*happydance*
4th treatment
Had my (hopefully) final treatment today! It went well until the end when Paul noticed my face looked puffy. The nurses gave me more Benadryl, and it seems to be better now… I didn’t feel any different but it’s better to be safe. Hemoglobin levels are at 12.0g today, which is the bottom cutoff for the normal range for women! YEEAAHHHH! Almost normal again! They even said I could...

Got my blood test in!
My hemoglobin is at 11.7g!! Another whole gram gained in a week! What great news :)
I am sitting at the cancer center right now, about to start my third Rituxin treatment. I have one more scheduled next Monday, and hopefully none more after that. Let’s hope.

Had my second Rituxin treatment today
All went well! No trouble breathing this time! My arm that was hurting is feeling mostly better, it is still a little sore but not as bad as it was before. PICC line still intact!
The nurse said my hemoglobin was at 10.8g, which is great. It did not fall at all! I am so happy about this… it is not the first time my levels have been steady, but it is the most encouraging. The doctor said...
KANSAS STATE AND OREGON THIS WEEKEND

CBC Results
My hemoglobin went from 7.7 to 10.4 with the help of the Rituxin treamtment and blood transfusion! This is really great news! I am still well under the normal levels, but I am thinking positively and I’m excited and relieved to have a little peace of mind going into the weekend. Thanks for all who have been praying for me. I wound up not going to the healing mass because I was very much...
Anonymous asked: Healing masses are wonderful just for the spiritual power - I used to go just to gain grace and peace - I love your blog and am going to send you a prayer shawl - it is a ministry in our parish.

Update on life lately
I never really talked about what was going on inside my body/head. So October 24, I was admitted to the ER with jaundice (yes, I was yellow, especially my eyes and hands) after feeling really crappy for a few days upon returning from Vegas. I later found out this was caused by something called idiopathic AIHA, autoimmune hemolytic anemia. This means antibodies are attacking my red blood cells and...
I was in the hospital for 13 days.
I just got the bill for JUST the first 6 days, and it was almost $22,000… dear God. Let’s see how much I’m going to have to battle my insurance company to cover this.

Help a sister out.
Good thing I tested this box o’dye before putting it all over my head— anyone know of a hair dye brand that does NOT turn dark blonde hair orange? I mean really. I even got the ash light blonde and nope, still made my roots orange. Help?
